The disturbing incident happened on November 12, 2023, according to Bheki Khanyile, ANC Josiah Gumede Regional Spokesperson.

He described how the councilor allegedly used a steel-nut-wielding stick and scabbard knife to attack Mvelo Mokhonza from the neighborhood.
The victim was rushed to the hospital with broken limbs and a disfigured face, Khanyile continued, describing the seriousness of the circumstance.
The distressing incident is made worse by the rumors that the victim’s mother, who is said to be in her early 90s, saw the attack. Khanyile said,” To see their neighbor commit such a heinous crime against her son might send her to hell.”
Additionally, a case was filed at the Ezakheni Police Station, and legal proceedings are currently being conducted, according to the ANC Regional spokesperson.

Cllr. Mdluli has since been released on bail and will appear in court on December 4, 2023, according to SAPS Spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan.

For comment, Newcastillian News contacted Cllr. Zama Sibisi, the mayor of the Alfred Dum Municipality. He emphasized, however, that he was unable to comment because the incident had not been reported to him at the time.
Thami Ntuli, the IFP KZN Provincial Chairperson, was contacted by Newcastillian News to provide comment because the accused councillor is a member of the Inkatha Freedom Party ( IFP), but he was unavailable at the time of publication.
