Oct. 6( Reuters )- Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, announced on Friday that Arsenal will once again be a contender for the Premier League championship. Arsenal were the club’s main rivals last season.
Before City caught up to them on the home stretch and snatched the championship away from them en route to an historic treble last season, Arsenal had been in the league’s lead for a number of months.
However, Mikel Arteta’s team defeated City to win the Community Shield, making them one of only two league teams without a loss this season. Before Sunday’s game at Emirates Stadium, Arsenal is third in the table, one point behind leaders City.
Last season, Arsenal was the main rival. They weren’t there in the past. They have already arrived and will remain there for a while ,” Guardiola told reporters, adding that their main title rivals are Liverpool and Arsenal.
They ( Arsenal ) work well together. Their pattern is distinct. They battled to win, and now they are back. Arsenal has returned.
Arsenal used to be at Barcelona when I was a young boy, and they are now back. One of the hardest games is traveling to the Emirates.
Wolverhampton Wanderers gave City their first league loss last weekend, but Guardiola said he anticipates a different performance because Arsenal won’t defend at home.
” It’s entirely different for Wolves than it is for Arsenal.” From minute one, wolves defend. With Arsenal, I don’t believe that will occur. We must adjust; we are quite familiar with one another, and we will see ,” he continued.
In their most recent 12 league games, City has defeated Arsenal, but Guardiola’s team will be without the suspended midfielder Rodri.
” We’ll speak with the staff today, then analyze tomorrow.” Tomorrow, we’re getting ready,” Guardiola said.
It is common knowledge that Rodri is one of the top two or three holding midfielders in the world, but his absence from the team is significant. He isn’t present. Over many years, we have advanced despite our absences. On Sunday, we’ll play without him.
In terms of injuries, Guardiola reported that John Stones, who was selected for the England squad, would not be prepared for either the weekend game and that Kevin De Bruyne is improving but won’t be in contention.
