Cele ‘deeply concerned’ about increase in child murders

While the most recent [quarterly ] crime statistics indicate a decline in the number of fatalities among women and children, according to Bheki Cele, many of them are not secure around their loved ones.

Cele claims that most crimes against children take place in their homes, where they should be safe, in response to a media briefing yesterday.

” Brutally targeted attacks and abuse have not spared children.”

Between July and September 2023, 293 children were killed.

Children were the targets of 361 attempted murders and 1820 GBH incidents during the same time period. Between July and September, there were more than 1500 reports of attempted murders of women.

In instances of gender-based violence, more than 14, 000 women were assaulted.
