The city of Cape Town has grown to be a hotspot for carjackings, according to the South African Police Service’s most recent quarterly crime statistics.

The second quarter of the 2023–2024 fiscal year, between July and September, saw the most incidents at the Harare and Nyanga police stations.
According to the statistics, 114 people were carjacked overall in Harare and 82 in Nyanga.
The third most likely location for your car to be hijacked was Protea station in Johannesburg, Gauteng, with 81 reported cases during the same time period.
The top 10 spots on the list of the top 30 carjacking stations were in Gauteng and the Western Cape.

In contrast to the Western Cape, it had six of the top ten stations.
16 of the top 30 carjacking stations were located in Gauteng.
Carjackings increased by 120 % for the Protea police station during the reporting period, while those at Moroka, which is fourth in the top 30, by 80 %.
Police have documented 2, 841 hijackings between July and September, indicating that South African criminals prefer sedans, hatchback, and coupés.
With 1, 878 hijackings occurring during the same time period, car thieves favor bakkies and panel vans.

The Eastern Cape, the Free State, Limpopo, KwaZulu-Natal, and the Western Cape all saw a decline in carjackings.
However, during this time, KZN, the Eastern Cape, and the Free State saw a sharp rise in truck hijackings.
48 trucks were hijacked in KZN between July and September, 18 in Free State, and 60 in Eastern Cape.
