According to CAPE TOWN-Gun Free South Africa ( GFSA ), the most recent crime statistics continue to place firearms as the main murder weapon in the country.
The government could not “take comfort” in the slight decline in violent crime, according to Bheki Cele, the police minister, who released the most recent quarterly crime statistics in Parliament on Friday.
According to the statistics, South Africa sees at least 34 fatal shootings each day.
The statistics on gun violence, according to GFSA director Adele Kirsten, are depressing.
She claimed that GFSA was urging the government to save lives by using its crime data.
” To track, trace, and destroy illegal firearms,” we reiterate our call for the creation of specialized firearm units.
According to Kirsten, restricting the availability of firearms through a variety of controls saves lives, as evidenced by the 1998 reduction of SA’s gun death rate to 18 per day.
