Less than an hour’s drive from Cape Town,” Solo Studios – Intimate Art Encounters” will be held over the weekend of August 18 and 20, 2023, in Arts Town Riebeek Valley.
Seven of these artists have invited outside collaborators to co-exhibit in their private spaces, making seventeen of their studios accessible to the public.
Seven additional group exhibitions, including two private art collections in upscale guest houses, will take place at various galleries and venues. Passengers will gain insight into the artists’ processes and inspiration by spending time in the private spaces of their studios.
At Solo Studios, we don’t just sell art. Klaus Piprek, co-founder and director of Solo Studios, says,” We sell an experience.” Beyond the visual arts, these experiences go further. What has come to be known as Arts Town Riebeek Valley, which encompasses the twin towns of RIEBEE Kasteel and RIbEE West, offers a great deal more to enjoy than just the art exhibitions. Prepare to be seduced from your intended artistic path by the aromas emanating from a coffee shop, the scent of locally produced botanical oils, or the alluring wine tasting at some of the most renowned Swartland wineries.
According to Shawn Hewitt, project manager for this year’s event,” The Riebeek Valley will dress to the nines as usual in anticipation of the influx of art enthusiasts to this prestigious event and visitors can expect a host of venues offering food experiences and wine tastings.” The streets and pavements will be filled with entertainers, and numerous fringe activities will highlight innovative community development projects. The abundance of restaurants, the village bakery, and the profusion of craft and artisanal shops are all added to the richness of the region’s flavor from wine and olive producers.
Making a weekend of it is the best way to fully appreciate what we have to offer, advises Klaus. ” To fully appreciate everything Solo Studios and the valley have to offer, there is simply not enough time in one day.”
With 183 works of art sold at the record-breaking” Solo Studios – Intimate Art Encounters” event in 2022, which brought in R2.5 million, there was fierce competition to attend. Out of the numerous deserving applications, 17 local artists were chosen for the 2023 edition.
The Winelands Philharmonic Orchestra’s charity concert, which features the Riebeek Kasteel Steelband, is a highlight of the 2023 event. Expect this collaboration to include original compositions!
