Thembinkosi Lorch, a football player for the JOHANNESBURG-Orlando Pirates, was fined R100,000 for assaulting his girlfriend Fundiswa Mathithibala.
Lorch was given a three-year direct imprisonment order that was suspended for five years with conditions when he appeared in the Randburg Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
The midfielder, who is still the club’s representative, was also deemed unfit to own a gun.
The soccer player was also fined by the court for joining a group that promotes gender-based violence.
The same court found Lorch guilty of assaulting someone with the intent to seriously harm them in June.
He allegedly attacked Mathithibala at his Midrand home in September 2020, according to reports.
Orlando Pirates has been contacted by Eyewitness News for comment, and we are still waiting.
