At the end of Table Mountain Road, British long-distance runner and former British Army Captain Tom Evans was attacked and robbed while preparing for a trail running competition scheduled for the following week.
The mugging was reported earlier today at around 2pm, according to the neighborhood Facebook group Hiking Cape Town.
In light of rising crime in tourist hotspots, the city should intensify safety measures.
Evans was allegedly running up Table Mountain Road from the university when he was attacked by two unidentified men, according to one social media user who discovered him and helped him.
Evans was hurt only slightly. Before fleeing back towards the university, the perpetrators, who were both carrying knives, robbed him of his phone and severed his wedding band.
Rangers from Table Mountain have received notification.
Evans reportedly made the trip to Cape Town for the RMB Ultra-trail that will take place there on Friday, November 24, the following week.
