Cape Town police captain fatally shot in informal settlement

Police captain of Cape Town was fatally shot in a small-town community.

A police captain was shot on Sunday afternoon in Cape Town’s Site 5 informal settlement as the number of fatal assaults on police officers continues to rise across the nation.

According to Brigadier Novela Potelwa, a police spokesman,” Western Cape police are reeling in shock after the murder of one of their colleagues.”

The captain reportedly had a connection to the Table View police station.

Shortly after the incident, the suspects fled the scene while brandishing the policeman’s gun. There have been no arrests.

The 54-year-old victim’s identity has not yet been made public, according to Potelwa.

The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation ( DPCI) is looking into the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.

As the investigation progresses, the motivation is anticipated to become clear.

Potelwa continued,” The Western Cape police management is saddened by this attack on a police officer. The family and coworkers of the deceased police captain received condolence messages.

This follows a mass shooting in Gugulethu last month that resulted in the shooting deaths of five people, including an off-duty police officer.
