JOHANNESBURG: I can categorically state that Lords Bar is a haven of sophistication, dispelling the myth that bars are disorderly.

Despite recent renovations, the bar maintains its rich history by exuding an inviting atmosphere that tells a tale through its newspaper-covered walls.

The hotel, along with Lords Bar, was originally constructed in 1949, according to operations manager Clement Mahumela of the Protea Hotels by Marriott Balalaika.

The history of Lords Bar, a component of the original hotel complex, is fascinating.

Mahumela claimed that between Johannesburg and Pretoria, the area where Lords Bar is located was once a horse waterer.

Even the large blue door that leads into Lords Bar resembles the one on England’s 10 Downing Street.

According to Mahumela, the renovation of the bar was done not to alter its design but rather to modernize it and incorporate Joburg’s culture and concrete jungle.

Mahumela claimed that while Lords Bar’s R2 million renovations sought to straddle its rich history and provide customers with a revitalized food and beverage menu, modernizing dated architecture is no simple task.

Customers are in awe of Chef Kabelo’s menu because of his well-known cheesecake. The starters” transport your taste buds to culinary paradise” with pulled lamb tacos and deep-fried cheese-stuffed pap balls.

Everyone can enjoy tapas, gourmet sandwiches, and the ever-popular jaffels on the versatile menu.

Additionally, Chef Kabelo wants to add a tantalizing selection of vegan dishes to his menu, which will appeal to both seasoned plant-based enthusiasts and those who are unfamiliar with meat – and dairy-free cuisine.

With sultry, out-of-the-box cocktails like” Life Gets Better ,”” Red Dragon ,” and” Angel Kisses ,” mixologist Trent Hall, who is from Durban, gives the bar experience a touch of intimacy.

” Every cocktail I make here is unique to the guest and how they will enjoy it; I don’t make a single original classic recipe.”
