For the Virgin Active 947 Ride Joburg cycling race on Sunday, major Johannesburg roads will be blocked to traffic.
The race, which will begin and end at the FNB Stadium in Soweto, is anticipated to draw thousands of cyclists.
Officers have been stationed at various locations along the route by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department ( JMPD).

Among the affected areas are Diepkloof, Orlando West, Riverlea, Selby, Braamfontein, Parktown, Kyalami, Lonehill, parkwood, sunninghill; Douglasdale, Fourways, Ormonde, and Nasrec.
While some of the affected routes include Jan Smuts Avenue, Woodmead Drive, Witkoppen Road, Grosvender Street, N1 South, and Main Reef Road.
According to Xolani Fihla, a spokesman for the JMPD, “residents and members of the public are urged to exercise caution and patience for cyclers during the race.”
In order for road users to plan their routes appropriately, we are urging them to become familiar with the day’s traffic management plan.
