Both parties were urged by Moussa Faki Mahamat to” return, without conditions, to the negotiating table to implement the principle of two States living side by side.”

In a statement released late on Saturday by the 55-member AU bloc on X, formerly known as Twitter, Faki stated that” the Chairperson further calls on the international community, and the major world powers in particular, to assume their responsibilities to impose peace and guarantee the rights of the two peoples.”

According to the statement, he” wishes to recall that the primary reason for the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian tension is the denial of fundamental rights of the Palestinian people, particularly those of an independent and sovereign State.”

Early on Saturday, Hamas launched a massive offensive against Israel, breaching Gaza’s security wall with thousands of rockets aimed at Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.

More than 200 Israelis were killed and 1, 000 were injured in the land, sea, and air attack, according to Israel’s army. Hamas fighters shot residents of Israeli towns and settlements.

Soldiers and civilians were taken hostage as gunfights broke out between Israeli forces and hundreds of Hamas fighters in various Israeli locations on Sunday morning.

At least 256 Palestinians were killed and nearly 1,800 were injured as a result of Israeli airstrikes on the coastal enclave, according to Gaza officials.

Israel’s response to Hamas would” continue with neither limitations nor respite until the objectives are reached ,” according to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who also warned that Israel was” embarking on a long and difficult war.”
