Higher Education Minister Blaze Nzimande’s decision to resign from his position to administer the university was cited by JOHANNESBURG- UNISA as proof that the courts were still respected.
Irhon Rensburg was chosen to serve as the institution’s administrator after Nzimande halted plans to do so.
The university reacted negatively to the initial ruling, accusing Nzimande of disrespecting the law.
Nzimande’s choice not to put the university under administrative control has been praised by UNISA.
Nzimande changed his mind on Friday after receiving a directive from the Pretoria High Court.
Before Nzimande appointed an administrator, the court had already issued an interdict to stop this action.
Following an investigation into the university that revealed poor financial management and mismanagement, Themba Mosia’s recommendations for placing the institution under administration served as the impetus for doing so.
