David Warner broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most runs scored in a World Cup match against India on Sunday in Chennai, India.

Warner defeated Tendulkar and former South African captain AB de Villiers, who both scored runs in 20 innings, to set a record in Chennai in 19 innings.

Australia chose to bat first as the cricket powerhouses began their 2023 campaigns, and the left-handed Warner broke Hardik Pandya for a boundary to break the record.

The highest runs in the 50-over showpiece event were scored by Tendulkar, an Indian batting legend who retired from the game in 2013.

Australia is poised to win their sixth World Cup in what may be Warner’s final appearance in the competition. Warner, 36, has scored over 6, 000 runs in 151 ODIs.
